Spoken Language Development in Down Syndrome
Spoken Language Development in Down Syndrome
Purpose
We are currently recruiting families for a research project to learn more about how language skills develop in children between the ages of 6 and 11 years who have Down syndrome.
Details
Children and their mothers will participate in an assessment of language and cognition totaling 2 to 3 hours (either at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus or a location near you) and by completing some questionnaires. We will pay families $40 for their time and effort, and we will reimburse mileage for those who travel to campus from a distance of greater than 50 miles.

Down Syndrome Cognition Project
What is this study about?
We are recruiting families for a research project to understand more about how children who have Down syndrome learn and problem solve. We are also gathering information about certain medical conditions and genes that may affect learning and behavior.
Who can participate?
Individuals with Down syndrome who are between the ages of 6 and 25 years and their families. A short eligibility screener will determine participation.
What does participation involve?
- Participation requires attending one in-person assessment of cognition (2–2.5 hours) on campus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
- Parents will be asked to complete online or written questionnaires about their child’s behaviors.
- Mothers will be asked to complete a 45-minute phone call about health and family history.
- Participants will be asked to provide a small blood sample which can be coordinated with medically necessary blood draw. Parents will be asked to provide a small saliva sample.
- We will pay families $75 for their time and effort, and we will reimburse mileage for those who travel from a distance greater than 50 miles.
